FORMWORK MANUAL / DAILY STUDIES

CAPSTONE RESEARCH
The goal of Formwork was to focus on expressive form as content specifically related to graphic design. My research consists of daily practice building on what came before to become something new. The concept for my research was created by designer Keetra Dixon. For three weeks, I created daily compositions based on a systemized matrix and my own imagination. Throughout the process, I was committed to letting form follow function.
A basic overview of the steps my research included were: Collect, Sort, Structure, Study, Archive, and Present. I collected 100 pieces of design and analyzed them as influences. I then sorted these pieces into specific areas of focus and structured them into matrices which became a reconfigurable foundation to how I created new work. Each daily piece took me no longer that two hours to complete. For twenty days, I posted a daily study to an online archive to keep track of my progress.
At the end of my research, I compiled my best studies into an editorial piece explaining what my tools were for each study. I also included where my inspiration derived.
DAY 13
This study consisted of 3D shapes, song lyric, and smooth.
